To Our Local Heroes

First, I want to say thank you to everyone who has made it possible for me to distribute this message. I can not express my gratitude enough for your assistance.

Sacrifice. On July 4th, we honor the sacrifice of our founding fathers who pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor. It was given to the young country by men who would come to know the high cost of what they did. Men who, in most cases, paid with their very lives. We're free today because of the sacrifice of ...

Continued Progress

As the fireworks settle across the Mechanicsburg skyline, I wanted to take this time to write a personal message to those in the community.

Just two years ago, MechanicsburgOH.com was launched. If you were an early adopter of the website, you understand how much things have changed. We used to be nothing more than a homepage and a calendar. Now we bring you photos and videos, community blogs, online tv, and so much more. But all of that has been made possible through contri...

Creating Community

Posted by William Baldwin on June 16, 2010 at 9:21 AM Comments comments (0)

In the dead of Ohio winters, the sustaining image to get me through to another spring is that of ComFest, the annual counter-culture communityfestival in Columbus each June. The music, the dancing people, local (and not so local) vendors plying their wares, volunteering my time in the beer tent -- this annual weekend-long celebration rejuvenates myspirit and encourages my faith in the human population. I learn more about myself, I meet fun people, learn a new dance move -- and at the end of t...

Purpling with Yahoo!

Posted by Kyle Anderson on June 7, 2010 at 7:12 PM Comments comments (0)

As the Houghton Mifflin Dictionary describes it, purple is any of a group of colors with a hue between that of violet and red. But the Mechanicsburg area knows this to be so much more. We are programmed in a way that when we see the color purple, we think of Mechanicsburg, Ohio. Our love for purple is used in our school, village, and even our website! But we don't share in the love for purple alone.

Yahoo!, simply put, enables users everyday to ask a question or discover...

Community Cleanup Day

Posted by William Baldwin on April 24, 2010 at 6:26 PM Comments comments (0)

The Village of Mechanicsburg held a "Community Cleanup Day" on Saturday, April 24th, 2010.  It was the last in a series of events beginning April 16th as the Village worked to "clean up" the town. As MechanicsburgOH.com was donating to support this event, I decided to attend to document and help if needed.

I arrived at the Street D...

Spring Brush Pick Up 2010

Posted by William Baldwin on March 31, 2010 at 9:39 AM Comments comments (0)

Winter is finally over and the Village Street Department can finally (hopefully) put those snow plows away for another year. However, their hard work continues as we move into the 2010 Spring season.

The Village of Mechanicsburg provides brush pick up as a free service to its residents as they begin to clear the yards around their houses of debris. This service is performed by the Street Deparment. However, there are rules to follow to ensure your bundles will be picked up...

Reunited

Today, I received a most interesting and exciting story from Beth Lewis, who works at the Village office and is a member of MechaincsburgOH.com.

Beth received an email this morning from a lady who obtained her email address from our website. This lady had found a class ring from Mechanicsburg H.S. Class of 1987 with the name "Mindy" on the side as well as initials engraved on the inside. Beth only knows one "Mindy" in Mechanicsburg, so Beth called her an...
